Drain Flies, Say “Goodbye!”
I have never had drain flies, and I’m ok with that. But I have customers that have and that they drive them crazy. And since Dyna Trap is just not in the picture, I have been looking for something that would work. Which is hard right not, because NO ONE is having any hardware shows because of…you guessed it, Covid-19. So, when Green Gobbler brought me product that says, “kills drain flies,” I was all over it.
Now, don’t get confused when you look this product up. The label says Fruit Fly Killer, but it also kills drain flies and sewer flies. Have you ever wondered why you might get drain flies? Most people think it comes from fresh fruit, and so did I. But drain and fruit flies breed in the “gunk” that hangs on the sides of the drain lines. If you have slow running drains it makes it worse. Disposals are also a breeding ground for drain flies. But you can take care of this.
In the evening, my mom used to say that the kitchen was “closed.” That’s when you need to pour eight ounces of Green Gobbler down the drain. But go to the other drains in the house and put Green Gobbler down those drains also. You know why? Because the drain flies are sneaky and will show up in the other drains in your home to bother you there. This might take a few times, so be diligent. It’s made of citronella, so you aren’t pouring something caustic down the drains that might damage them.
So now you have an answer. And it’s easy! Hope this helps.

Question: Trudy, I can not find Lysol anywhere. I want a disinfectant that I can use on the door handles, counter tops, and in the bathroom. I don’t want any fragrance. Can you recommend any thing?
Answer: Yes, I can. I still can get ProSpray. It is a one-step cleaner, disinfectant and deodorizer. You won’t see it on the shelves of retail stores because it’s mainly sold to doctors and dentist offices. Just wipe down all the hard surfaces with this product and then just let it air dry. It will be safe on laminates, stone and granite. It is a “hospital grade” disinfectant. Now this is NOT something that you spray in the air or on your hands as a sanitizer. But it will take care of the germs associated with corona virus. COVID-19 is classified as an enveloped virus, which is fortunately easier to kill on surfaces and equipment. Now as far as Lysol, I don’t know when that will be back on the shelf. Probably about the time that we don’t need it.
Question: I have a painted front door. It faces the west, so it gets a lot of exposure. Should I put a clear coat over the paint for maintenance?
Answer: I don’t know what paint you used. But the paint IS the finish. A good acrylic paint should last you years on the outside of the house. I like to recommend Coronado Crylicote. You can have it mixed in any color, and it should last you for 15 years on the outside of the house or on your front door. If you just need to clean the front door or the house, use 30 Seconds Outdoor Cleaner. It will clean off all the dirt, dust, and mildew on a painted or stained surface. Just spray on, let it work, and then rinse off with water.
Now there is a new “Front Door Paint” made by Modern Masters, and it comes in beautiful colors from bright blue to deep maroon and a gorgeous turquoise, my favorite. What makes Front Door Paint different from others is the anti-fade technology and quick dry formula. It will allow you to paint and then close the door at the end of the day. Remember your front door should say...Welcome.
Question: Trudy, what was the name of the lubricant that you said is like liquid ball bearings?
Answer: The product is called Tri-Flow. And it truly is the best lubricant I have ever used.
