Cleaning Brick and Stone
When you think of muriatic acid, what comes to mind? The fumes? The possibility of getting burned? Those issues are real. Customers that want to purchase muriatic acid to use in the toilet should be aware of the real dangers of being overcome by the fumes in a non-vented bathroom. There are so many other ways to clean a toilet much safer than muriatic acid. Delete Germ and Zep come to mind. Neither one has noxious fumes. If you are going to use it outside, we recommend keeping a running water hose nearby in-case of accidental burns. But then again using 30 Seconds Outdoor Cleaner is a much better choice. No fumes and it works so fast. Using muriatic acid can etch your concrete so fast and there is no going back from that scenario.
But not all muriatic acid is the same! Acid Magic is the safe alternative to muriatic acid. But it is a muriatic acid in every sense of the word. But…and this is a big but…. it’s buffered. What’s buffered? It’s a blend of chemicals that don’t burn the skin on contact. It will tingle, but not burn! It will also have 90% less fumes. All of this without diluting the acid which makes it a great cleaner. It’s a very versatile product and will clean more than just toilets.
If you have a sprinkler system and a home with red brick on the façade, you might notice hard water stains that leave white halo marks on the brick. Maybe you have a light stone on the house that gets red mud stains around the bottom of the house. Cleaning brick and stone is so hard to do. Most homeowners will let their landscaper do the job, or they will use a cheap muriatic acid and wire brush. You need to use protective clothing and eyewear just to be safe. It’s a pain.
But with Acid Magic, it’s much easier and faster. Wear protective glasses and remember if Acid Magic gets on your clothes, they will fade. Here are the steps to clean the brick. Take a 5 x 5 area and wet it with a garden hose. Then spray Acid Magic on the brick. It will immediately foam up. Take a plastic bristle brush and scrub. It doesn’t take a lot of elbow grease, just a quick brush cleaning. Then with that garden hose, rinse off the Acid Magic. You will notice the difference immediately and when it dries, your brick with look clean and fresh.
What else will Acid Magic clean? You can use it in pools and spas for adjusting water chemistry. You can acid wash the pool tiles and even clean out your concrete birdbath and remove excess grout on tile. Anything that you would clean with muriatic, clean it safer with Acid Magic!

Question: Since all the paint strippers that contained methylene chloride are removed from the market, I have gone through many strippers trying to find one that works. I love doing some small furniture work, but finding a good product is getting difficult. Do you have any suggestion?
Answer: Soy Gel is what you are looking for. Soy Gel is an amazing paint remover with just one difference between it and others. It’s not fast! So, you must plan for that. I am doing a piece that my daughter painted. I wanted the stain to show on the top and leave the drawers painted. I applied Soy Gel and then covered it with plastic wrap. Then I went for a walk. When I came home, I removed the plastic in one area and tested to see if the paint was ready to be removed. It was...I scooped it off with a plastic putty knife. It removed quickly because it was just paint over a varnished finish. You will need to clean the surface after removing Soy Gel. (it’s kind of sticky) Soy Gel makes Emerge but you can use TSP or Krud Kutter and that remove the residue. There is no smell with Soy Gel, and I didn’t even use gloves. And, it never had methylene chloride in their product. It’s been the safe solution for many, many years. It was the best find one year at the National Hardware Show.
