Today I want to talk to you about
cracks in concrete driveways, and sidewalks. I know you probably
think that a small little crack is nothing to get excited about, but
it is. Why…because that little crack can let rain water get down
into the concrete, and the ground will expand. That pushes the
concrete some more and opens the crack up even farther. Then you
have a not just a little crack, but a large crack that is even more
work to fill. Sometimes the water will push up the concrete so much
that you completely have to replace it. And that’s why we take
care of a small crack. When they are just hairline cracks you need
Rockite. Rockite is a very fine powder that has
a concrete bonder in it so that when you dampen the
it expands as it dries and can be walked on in 15 minutes. It dries
to a grey concrete color, and is self leveling. Next if there is a
crack that is a little larger, or a chip of concrete that you want to
glue back. Use the product called
Slab. This product comes
in a caulking tube. Clean the area that you want to fix, fill the
crack with sand and leave about 3/8” at the top so you don’t
Slab product. Slab also moves with the concrete so
the crack will not open up again. And then there is the expansion
joint area of a concrete driveway. Sometimes it’s filled with a
piece of lumber that after a while will pop up out of place or rot
and come out. The product to use is
Sealant that is self leveling. Clean out the joint, dam up
the ends of the joint (so the
Quikcrete doesn’t roll out)
and fill the joint with sand up to the last 3/8’s and then fill
Quikcrete. Now you have 3 ways to take care of any
concrete cracks before they are a problem.
Now to the email…..
Question: I just bought a house and
the previous owner smoked. The smoke smell is horrific. I am writing
you first because I don’t want to do something, and then realized I
should have done something else. We don’t move in while we are
renovating so we want to do this right. So from start to finish…how
do we get rid of the smell?
Answer: This is a great question. I
know you said you are replacing the flooring, so when you pull all of
it up…mop the slab with
Bio Zapp. This will neutralize the
smell and not let it affect the new carpeting. Then when you are
Bio Zapp Concentrate in the paint. Then put a
Air Sponge in the return air vent. Turn the
Fan Only setting
on the AC unit and just let it run for 24 hours. This will clean
out the duct work and help in cleaning out the smoke smell. You can
Air Sponge in 3 sizes, ½ lb, 1 lb and 4 lb.
Question: We have a salt water pool.
It has ruined our outdoor furniture. What can we do to repaint it
because having it powder coated again is completely out of the
question. What kind of paint do I use? Do I have to strip off the
remaining paint? And is this a DIY project?
Answer: Sure it’s a DIY project.
Just don’t get in a hurry and take your time. I had the same thing
happen to me….salt water pool….ruined outside furniture. So
remove the rest of the paint with
So y Gel. It’s the no
smell ….no hurry paint remover. After all the paint is off …prime
the aluminum with
Krud Kutter Metal Etch. Then paint with a
good metal paint. I would spray it on
. Rust Scat Enamel or
Rust Cap Enamel …they both are great.
Question: The other morning I found
some small bugs in my bathroom area. I have no idea what they are,
just want them gone. I am sure they are not termites, just these
tinsy little black bugs. I have a small dog so I am careful what I
spray inside the house.
Answer: Use a product called Shoo
Ant Roach and Spider. It gets rid of anything that crawls.
And it dries in 20 minutes and then it’s perfectly safe around
children and small pets.
