I do a live radio show in San Antonio
on KKYX. My brother in law always does the show with us. He has a
business called Acme Doors and More. He does remodeling. So he
knows all the tricks of the trade. I asked him about what is his “go
to” item that he must have in his business. I was expecting
something that had to do with refinishing, or staining….he shows me
Zip It!A Zip It? He has a daughter and a wife with
long hair and both of the drains are always getting clogged with hair
and soap. He takes the Zip It and pushes it down the drain and it
easily makes the curve in the drain and pushes the clog down further
in the line to where it can go down, and then you pull it up and
bring up anything that didn’t go down. No chemicals,
environmentally safe, fast and easy and very inexpensive to use. A
Zip It costs less than $4. So if you have a sink drain, tub or
shower drain that gets clogged with hair and soap…keep a Zip It
around under the sink. And just because you are not in San Antonio
doesn’t mean you can’t listen to “The Happy Handy Man Show”
every Saturday from 11-12. Just go to
kkyx.com and then click
Listen Live. You will hear us every Saturday.
Now to the email…..
Question: Johnnie, I have a granite
table that my son put the dog soap bottle on and it left a round
stain that will not come off. What can I use to get it off?
Answer: Looking at the picture, it
looks like a oil stain. There is only one product that I would feel
safe using for that and it’s the
Dupont Oil Stain Remover.
Question: Please me know what the name
of the cat repellent is. They are digging in my flower beds.
Answer: Use the Messina Cat and Dog
. It works well. Just remember to re-apply after you
water, and when it starts getting real hot.
Question: I’ve enjoyed your column
for years. I have a cultured marble shower that I wipe down daily
and well as the floor but suddenly I’ll notice that the floor is
very dark and dirty. I have tried soap scum removers but they do
nothing. What can you suggest?
Answer: Well cultured marble is a
product that you have to be careful with. You can’t use just
anything because it will remove the gel coating on the marble…and
that’s it…it’s ruined. So use a product made by
called Soap Scum Remover
. Put it on with a soft rag and then you
could use a soft brush to scrub with …then rinse when it’s clean.
It will not be slick.
Question: We live on the Texas Gulf
Coast and have a older home built in the late 60’s. We have a
white mold like substance that builds up on the surfaces at scattered
locations in the garage. We have tried straight bleach –
vinegar-with no luck and it will eventually re-appear. We even tried
a concrete paint and it peeled. What can we do short of re-doing the
concrete to stop this?
Answer: This is effervescence from
moisture coming up through the concrete.
DryLok makes a
DryLok Wet Look. It stops the salts from
effervescence on the concrete surface. To prepare the surface for
DryLok Wet Look use the DryLok Etch and Masonry
. That way you will have a clean surface for the DryLok
to adhere to.
Question: I have a frig in my garage
and a gallon of milk leaked out. I took everything out of the frig
and even cleaned the frig drain area…but it still smells. What can
Answer: It’s tough to remove a smell
from a refrigerator because when things leak, they can go behind the
walls of the refrigerator and into the insulated walls. But let’s
Bio Zapp Odor Remover and spray down all the walls of
the refrigerator. Spray anything that you can get to. Then after
it’s dry …put an
Air Sponge in the refrigerator and just
let it work. Both of these products only cost less than $15. This
is what I would do…Good Luck!
