Quite a few years ago a customer
came into our lumberyard went straight to Dad’s desk plunked down a
quart bottle and asked him “why don’t you have this Johnnie?”
It was a product called
Quick Shine and Dad had never heard of
it but promised our customer that at the next hardware show if it was
there, we would get it. Those requests were very important to Dad
and so at the show we did find it and that started a long term
relationship with
“Holloway House”. I was given a bottle
to try and I did. I had a home that had old (old and not taken care
of) parquet floors and they looked like the only way to make them
look better was to sand them down, stain and refinish them again.
The price I got for that was unbelievable. So I took the bottle of
Quick Shine and followed the directions which were to clean
the floor and apply the
Quick Shine with a clean mop. I put
on one coat and was really impressed and decided that if one coat
would look good, how about another? Well every night after my
daughter went to bed I would put a coat on the floor and in the
morning I was awed with the depth of color and shine that began to
come out in that old floor . At Thanksgiving when all my family came
over everyone remarked about how great the wood floors looked
especially Dad.
Quick Shine is NOT a wax; it’s a polymer
finish which means you never have to strip it off the floor. You
literally walk it off. If you have lots of traffic in the house you
might want to reapply every few weeks, but if it’s just you in the
house the finish will last for months. When the floor is not as
shiny as you would like, just apply another coat. Holloway House
makes a kit that has a micro fiber mop, a small bottle of
Quick
Shine
and that will be all you need. Quick Shine has a
light fragrance that smells like soap and when you want to clean your
floors
Holloway House makes No Bucket multi surface
cleaner which will not dull the shine of the Quick Shine
floor. If you have a floor that has lost its shine, whether it
be wood, tile or laminate
Quick Shine is the easy answer.

Question: Trudy, I have a wood door
that I have let go too far for
Restore A Finish and Sun Wax
and I want to try and refinish the door myself. Tell me the products
to use, and if you have any little hint that might make the job go
easier.
Answer: First take the weather
stripping off the door frame so that nothing touches the door while
the varnish cures. I would think that removing the door and letting
it lay on saw horses so you have an even surface to work on. Then
lightly sand the door so you have a good surface to take on the
stain. Use the
Zar stain and a soft rag to apply 1 even coat,
and let dry. You might need to apply another coat to get the depth
of color that you want. Then use a Marine Spar Varnish for the
finish top coat. Spar varnishes are made for the outside and will
give protection from the sun. Apply 2 coats and lightly sand between
coats. Use a tack cloth to remove all dust between sanding. A
water- based Spar Varnish will dry faster.
Question: I have squeaky floors
upstairs. I know you have talked about a item that will make it easy
to go through the carpet and down into the floor- what was that and
is it really that easy?
Answer: Yes it’s that easy. The
Squeek No More is a kit with a tool that attaches to your
drill, the screws to go down into the floor and then you are able to
break them off below the carpet and you never see them. The
Squeek
No More
Kit comes with a tool to find the floor joist so you know
exactly where to drill the screws in so that the floor will quit
squeaking.
