Do you have some kitchen or bath rugs
that you can throw in the washer and dryer that have lost some of the
rubber backing? The top of the rug still looks good but the backing
is shot! When that happens to a rug it sure becomes dangerous. You
step on it and it becomes a “flying carpet” and not in the cute
Genie kind of way. You don’t have to throw that rug away; you just
need to restore the backing with a product called
Fiber- Lok on your rugs; wash and dry your rug as
usually and remove any flakey rubbing backing. Apply a thin coat of
Fiber- Lok and let dry. A second coat should be applied within
12 hours. Your rug is washable in a week.
Fiber- Lok can be
used on old rugs, new rugs, wall hangings and it will secure edges of
rugs to keep them from raveling.
Fiber- Lok backing secures
rugs on hard surface floors, like wood, tile laminate and concrete,
not rug to rug. When you apply
Fiber- Lok make sure you are
in a well ventilated area and you protect the surface you are working

Question: Our pergola is about 6 years
old and in Houston where we live we have some rotting wood on three
of the upright supports. Is there some way to repair this without
replacing the support columns?
Answer: Yes you can with a product
Minwax Wood Hardener. Remove the paint at the bottom
of the columns where your soft wood is by either sanding or using a
remover. I don’t think that you will need to sand that much; it
looks like that the paint will easily flake off. Once the paint is
removed apply the
Minwax Wood Hardener with an inexpensive
Minwax Wood Hardener has a capillary action that
causes the wood to absorb the hardener down to the good wood. Apply
3 thin coats letting dry between coats. The final coat will be
shiny and that means that the column has absorbed all of the hardener
that it can. Wait 24 hours. The column will be rock hard again. If
you had any void areas, this would be the time to apply the
Minwax Wood Filler.
Sand the filler smooth in 20 minutes, and then the next
day you will be ready to do touch up painting. No primer is
Question: I have a colored grout that
is dirty and I am nervous about using most grout cleaners because of
the bleach that is in them. I don’t want to discolor the grout,
just clean it. Do you have a suggestion?
Answer: Tech Grout Cleaner was the
original grout cleaner that was safe for colored grout. It has no
smell, it’s non acidic and safe around family and pets. Spray on
the Tech, and let sit – use the included brush to clean and then
rinse mop. It will leave no residue and your colored grout will be
clean. This might be a great time to apply a sealer like
Stonetech Advanced Grout Sealer .
Question: I have some new house
numbers that I need to attach to my brick home. What glue would you
Answer: I would use the PC-7 which is
a strong 2 part epoxy glue. Mix up the epoxy in equal parts and
apply to the numbers and the house.
PC-7 has great adhesion, but I
might tape down the numbers once you have them in place. Take off
the tape the next morning.
Question: My daughter has wood floors
and she damp mops them to clean. Somehow there was some puddling of
water on the floor and now she has some hazy places. Does she have
to strip the floor to remove the haziness?
Answer: No not at all. Use the White
and just wipe across the areas that are hazy. That will
pull the moisture up out of the layers of varnish on the floor. Make
sure that you do this now, before the moisture gets down into the
wood and it turns black. If it gets to that point, it’s much more
difficult to restore than just wiping a soft cloth over the stain.
